This collaboration grew out of an industry-academia partnership between Dalong Biotech and Da-Yeh University. Da-Yeh University introduced the tea farmers to Dalong Biotech. The farmers supply tea leaves they grow and process themselves, and Dalong Biotech applies its fermentation technology to develop and produce the kombucha. The result is a kombucha (a tea fermented with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, or SCOBY) that retains the original tea’s aroma while offering an entirely new drinking experience. Dalong Biotech first showcased its tea-based kombucha, developed with Da-Yeh University, at the 2024 Nantou World Tea Expo. The company launched its own kombucha powder sticks in 2024 and began producing custom glass-bottled kombucha for partners in 2025. Its manufacturing facility holds ISO 22000 and HACCP certifications. Since its launch, the kombucha has been well received in the market, and the expo provided a stage to further expand the visibility of both the brands and their products.
During the expo, the tea farmers introduced visitors to the kombucha made from their own tea and shared how it was developed together with Dalong Biotech. The tea farmers focus on growing excellent tea, while Dalong Biotech uses fermentation technology to extend that tea into new products, giving the farmers’ brands a distinctive new item and an additional sales channel. This is exactly the kind of partnership Dalong Biotech hopes to build with more tea farmers.
The Nantou World Tea Expo brings together tea-growing regions and industry professionals from across Taiwan, and it also allowed more people to discover the possibilities of combining Taiwanese tea with kombucha. Moving forward, Dalong Biotech will continue working with Da-Yeh University.
